JAPAN — When Crossworld disciple-maker Drew first moved overseas, he thought connecting with the local people would happen through events, large gatherings, and creative outreach opportunities.

But over the years, he discovered something different.

"The longer I've lived here," Drew reflects, "the more I've learned that some of the deepest and most meaningful connections happen one person at a time."

One ordinary day, Drew paused to sit on a bench in a local park. As he sat, Kazuo, an elderly man, approached with a smile and joined him.

Kazuo asked why Drew chose to live in Japan. Before long, their casual conversation turned into the start of a friendship. As they talked, Kazuo extended an invitation: "Would you like to come to my house for tea?"

Drew said yes.

That one conversation turned into a seven-year friendship over countless cups of tea, conversations, and sharing life.

As the friendship deepened, so did Kazuo's curiosity about Jesus. Over time, Drew had the privilege of walking alongside Kazuo as he explored the gospel. Eventually, Kazuo placed his faith in Christ, was baptized, and became an active member of their local faith community.

God orchestrated a small moment that eventually positioned these men as friends and brothers in Christ. “It’s been such a blessing to get to know this man and to see him become baptized,” Drew said.

The Lord often works through ordinary moments — in presence, community, and a willingness to say yes.
