Continued Relief in Italy

Italy disaster
30 seconds can change everything. Last April we told you how our CrossWorld staff were first responders to help meet the many needs following the earthquake in the university city of L'Aquila in central Italy. 80,000 people lost their homes, furniture, clothing, jobs, toilets, and running water. Now, six months later, the needs continue. Many of the first responder non-governmental organizations are beginning to pull back. CrossWorld intends to stay on.

The victims of the April 6 earthquake in Italy is one place where CrossWorld staff is on the ground giving aid and help. Gifts to our standing fund will be designated toward relief in Italy in the coming months. Here are several continuing needs identified by our team serving there:

  1. The evangelical church of Aquila needs help to be a source of humanitarian aid for the earthquake victims in the surrounding area. They need resources to provide practical help to relieve the suffering of the community, as well as Bibles and Christian literature.
  2. Many of the Christians living in Aquila have lost their home and all that was in it. Others have lost their business and need help starting over. Others have lost their jobs and need financial help until the economy in the area can start up again.
  3. The church building was located in the historical center of Aquila which has been virtually destroyed. A new meeting place is needed as well as a much needed Center for Family Counseling, activities for the youth and children, sports ministries, and all the normal ministries of the church.

The CrossWorld Challenge:
One of the difficult aspects of administering relief is doing it in a way that does not result in dependency. Our team members seek to meet urgent needs and minister to people for the long-haul. This fund allows for more rapid response, so the team on the ground can begin helping right away. Your financial partnership helps us bring the message of the cross, the hope of the world.
